Methyl benzoate is a colorless oily liquid with a strong floral and cherry fragrance. Miscible with ether, soluble in methanol, ether, insoluble in water and glycerin.
It can be used as a food preservative, a formulation of various spices, and also as a solvent for cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, and rubber compounds.
